The Location
Greatstone-On-Sea is located between the historic hilltop town of Rye to the West, with its cobbled streets and antique shops and the Ancient Cinque Port town of Hythe to the East. Hythe has a great high street to explore and you can hire rowing boats on the Royal Military Canal which was originally dug to keep out Napoleon Bonaparte. Greatstone offers a small range of shops, pubs and restaurants within walking distance. The Pilot, about a mile or so from the house, is one of kent’s best Fish and Chip restaurants! New Romney is the nearest town, some 2 miles inland and offers a range of facilities that you would expect in a small town including a good supermarket, bank, shops and restaurants. For a unique mode of transport, the Romney, Hythe and Dymchurch miniature steam railway will take you into Hythe and out to the unique landscape of the marshes in the opposite direction. Other options away from the beach are Port Lympe Zoo/ conservation park and the Designer Outlet at Ashford.
