The Engine house was added in 1890 to be used when the wind was not strong enough to turn the blades. Northbourne features in the Doomsday book drawn up shortly after the Normans invaded in 1066. Visit the Church and try lunch at the Village pub! Deal and the sea are just 3 miles away. The old town has many military conections which included Lord Nelson. There are some excellent shops and a good choice of restaurants. Dover Castle and docks, Sandwich and Canterbury are all within a 20 minutes drive.
