New Mill, Northbourne
New Mill was built in 1848 close to the ancient Doomsday village of Northbourne about three miles from Deal and an easy drive to Sandwich, Dover and Canterbury. The Mill is typical of the later style of smock mill found in this county, being quite tall for its girth. The mill was converted in 1976.
The Cottage
The accommodation is on the ground floor in the engine house, which was built about 1890 to accommodate the machinery to run the mill in windless conditions. This property is made up of two apartments separated by a corridor each has en- suite facilities. The Family Apartment has one double bed room and one twin bed room with a comfortable lounge diner and kitchen area. Bathroom with bath,w/c and basin. It has a private entrance at the side, private parking and a patio area. The adjoining guest room (annex) has a double bed, basic cooking facilities and a shower room. There is direct access to a pretty garden in the rear with garden furniture and barbeque. Washing machine and dryer also available.
The Location
The coast at Deal is only 3 miles away. The White Cliffs of Dover and ferries to France and Belgium are only 8 miles away. The famous mediaeval town of Sandwich with winding streets and half timbered houses is also within 8 miles. Close by are Walmer Castle and the small fishing villages of Kingsdown and St Margrets Bay. The pretty village of Northbourne with its ancient and interesting history is within walking distance. Only a 3 minute walk to the local pub, which serves good food. Pegwell Bay, where the Vikings and St Augustine landed, is only ten minutes away with its shoreline nature reserve. The mill is also excellent for walking, cycling and birdwatching. Outdoor leisure activities like golf, gliding, horse riding and water sports are in easy reach.
